Debaters’ Third-Place Finish at State Best in School History

After three days of competition, Ryan Handley and Hunter Finerty emerge as one of the top teams at the KSHSAA 5A Two-Speaker Tournament. After finishing 5-1 in preliminary rounds, Hunter and Ryan advance past Pittsburg in the Quarterfinals before finally dropping to the state runner-up Shawnee Heights. This weekend at the Shawnee Mission East/West Tournament Wildcat newcomers took home honors. In the Novice division, Tyler Gillespie and Peyton Peterson finished 6th out of over 90 teams with a 4-0 record. Debate Looks Great at Lansing & Olathe East

Over the past two weekends, DHS has experienced success at many levels of debate at multiple tournaments. Despite larger-than-usual entry sizes, the Wildcats have done great work in rising above the competition. Wichita East Results

Congratulations to our teams who competed at their first virtual tournament “at” Wichita East this past weekend. Hunter Finnerty and Ryan Handley finished 5th place in the Varsity division. Nic Weaver and Lucy Mater finished in the top 15 teams in a massive Novice division in their first ever tournament. Up next… debate at Blue

The De Soto High School Forensics program recently competed in the Basehor-Linwood High School Invitational and the Olathe South Invitational. Debate takes 2nd at Basehor-Linwood Inv.

The De Soto Debate program competed in the Basehor-Linwood Invitational on Saturday, November 23rd. Congratulations to the program on finishing in 2nd place overall. Kaitlin Torres and Kaitlyn Tait also took 2nd as an individual team.

The Debate team competed at Olathe South High School on Friday, October 18th and Saturday, October 19th. Congratulations to Eva Brackney and Blake Hinson who placed 3rd in the open division. Congratulations to Jackson Truelson and Audrey Sweeney for their 6th place finish in the novice division.
