The Varsity Football opened their 2019 season at home with a UKC match up vs. the Leavenworth Pioneers. The Wildcats defeated the Pioneers 51-19.
During the 1st Quarter the Wildcats scored on a 4 yard run by Tyson Priddy.
During the 2nd Quarter Tyson Priddy found the endzone for a second time on a 29 yard run. Eli Gratz added his second PAT of the night and the Wildcats had a 14-0 leave with 10:01 left until halftime. De Soto found the endzone again during the 2nd quarter off of a 1 yard run by Jake Rosen and led the Pioneers 21-0 with 7:15 left until the half. Leavenworth also found the endzone during the second frame and the score was 21-7. The Wildcats then found the endzone for a third time during the 2nd Q on a 2 yard run by Garrett Kellner, Gratz added the PAT and the Wildcats had a 28-7 at halftime.
The only score during the 3rd Quarter came from the Wildcat Defense when they had Leavenworth pinned against their own endzone forced a safety on the Pioneers. The 3rd quarter also saw another defensive play when Dallas Williams intercepted a Leavenworth pass and returned it to the 42 yard line.
The 4th Quarter the Wildcats saw rushing touchdowns from Russel Coy, Garrett Kellner, and Bryson Brummer. Leavenworth add a couple passing touchdowns late in the game and the final score stood at 51-19 in favor of the Wildcats!
The Wildcats move to 1-0 on the season and 1-0 in UKC play.
The Wildcat offense ran 57 plays for 438 total yards of offense.
The Wildcat defense held the Pioneers to 341 yards on 79 plays.
The Wildcats will be on the road for their week 2 Opponent. Next Friday, they will at Wyadontte.
