Game Recap

The De Soto Wildcat football season came to a close on Friday, November 17th with a 24-56 loss in the Sub State Championship to the Bishop Miege Stags.

The Wildcats jumped out to an early 7-0 lead scoring on their opening drive of the game. The score came off of a 9 yard Jack Barger run. Rodriguez added the PAT to make the game 7-0 Wildcats at the 5:28 mark into the the 1st Quarter. Miege answered with a score of their own at 3:40 in the 1st Quarter. The score was knotted at 7-7 after 1 Quarter of play.

De Soto struck first in the 2nd Quarter when Ethan Rodriguez converted a 42 yard field goal which made it a 10-7 Wildcat lead at the 11:02 mark into the 2nd Quarter. The De Soto defense then took action when Trevor Gress recovered a Miege fumble and returned it to the Stags 20 yard line. Leo Oplotnik then found the endzone on a 2 yard touchdown run and a Rodriguez PAT made the game a 17-7 Wildcat lead with 7:45 left in the 2nd Quarter. Miege then rattled off three offensive scores and one defensive touchdown to make the halftime score 17-35 with the Wildcats trailing.

The 3rd Quarter started with an interception by Zach Titus. The offense then scored on a 2 yard Jack Barger run and Rodriguez added the PAT to make the score 24-35 with 7:05 left in the 3rd Quarter. From that point on it was the Miege passing attack that did the scoring, converting on 3 touchdown passes which made the final score 24-56 in the Stags favor.

De Soto finished their season with an overall record of 10-2, both loses coming way of Bishop Miege. The Wildcats claimed the Frontier League Championship for the second year in a row, were District Runner Up, Regional Champions, Sectional Champions, and were the Sub State Runner Up.

On Monday, November 13th, the JV Scholar’s Bowl members helped host the De Soto JV Tournament, fulfilling a number of roles.  They did a wonderful job representing their school and hosting teams from across the Kansas City area.

On Tuesday, November 14th, the JV team competed at the Maranatha Invitational.  The team went 5-1 in pool play and advanced to the semifinals.  They won their first match and advanced to the final round, beating the only team to defeat them in pool play and winning first place!  The team was represented by Brandin Chase, A.J. Poulain, Connor McCall, Emily Kresin, Taia Sarasov, and Joshua Bunselmeyer.

Game Recap

The De Soto Wildcats defeated the Fort Scott Tigers on Friday, November 10th 49-13 in a KSHSAA Class 4A DI Sectional Playoff victory.

The Wildcats scored 21 points in the 1st Quarter. Exavier Jackson got the Wildcats on the scoreboard first with a 20 yard interception returned for a Touchdown. Ethan Rodriguez added the PAT to make the game 7-0 at only 11:15 into the 1st Quarter. Byrce Mohl then found the endzone on a 20 yard run and Rodriguez added the PAT to make it 14-0 Wildcats with 9:29 left in the 1st Quarter. Bryce Mohl then connected with Trevor Watts on a 32 yard pass for a touchdown and Rodriguez added the PAT to make it 21-0 Wildcats with 1:31 left to play in the 1st Quarter.
During the 2nd Quarter Bryce Mohl found Connor Strouse on a 35 yard touchdown pass and Brayden Brummer on a 64 yard touchdown pass. Rodriguez added both extra points and the score at halftime was 35-0 in De Soto’s favor.
The 3rd Quarter saw touchdowns from a 25 yard run from fullback Leo Oplotnik and a 14 yard pass from Bryce Mohl to Jack Barger. Rodriguez perfected the night with the addition of both PATs and the score after three quarters was 49-0 Wildcats.
During the 4th Quarter Fort Scott found the endzone on a 21 yard pass and a 7 yard run but only converted 1 of 2 PATs to make the final score 49-13.

The De Soto Offense accumulated 356 total yards on 46 plays while the De Soto Defense held Fort Scott to 281 total yards on 63 plays.

De Soto advances to the Sub State Championship game (Semi-Finals) where they will play host to Bishop Miege in a rematch of the only game the Wildcats have lost so far this season. The Wildcats fell 0-31 at Miege during Week 8. This game will decide who advances to the State Championship. The Sub State Championship will be held at De Soto High School on Friday, November 17th at 7:00pm. Tickets are $6 for Adults and $5 for Students K-12, no passes are accepted at KSHSAA post season events.

We hope to see a strong showing from Wildcat Nation on Friday at the Sub State Championship! Go Wildcats!

On Monday, November 6th, the JV scholar’s bowl team competed at the Lansing invitational.  The team was very competitive, going 5 – 1 in pool play and making it to the semifinals, ultimately finishing in 3rd place.  The team was represented by Abi Yarbrough, Graham Hudelson, Sam McQuality, Austin Bradley, Brandin Chase, and Taia Sarazoz.

On Thursday, November 9th, JV scholar’s bowl members competed in three different tournaments.  The team at the Maur-Hill invitational went 5 – 3 and took second place.  Congratulations to Abi Yarbrough, Graham Hudelson, Daniel Smith, Brandin Chase, Kelsey Heer, and Savannah Stine.  The teams at Schlagle and Turner both competed well and did a great job representing De Soto High School.

Game Recap

The De Soto Wildcats claimed a Regional Championship Playoff victory on Friday, November 3rd when they they defeated the Tonganoxie Chieftains 42-7. This win improves the Wildcats to 9-1 overall and advances them to the Sectional Playoffs in which they will host on November 10th at DHS vs. Fort Scott.

The game opened up with the Wildcat Defense forcing a 3 and out and then Zach Titus blocking the Tonganoxie punt. Then Darren Winans found the endzone on a 10 yard pass from Bryce Mohl. Ethan Rodriguez added the PAT and it was 7-0 Wildcats with 9:46 left in the quarter. The score was 7-0 Wildcats at the end of the first quarter.
Jack Barger found the endzone, to start the 2nd Quarter, on a 4 yard run and Rodriguez added another PAT to make the game a 14-0 lead for De Soto with 11:22 left in the 2nd Quarter. Trevor Watts then worked his magic to find the endzone on a 29 yard pass from Bryce Mohl and Rodriguez converted the PAT to make it a 21-0 De Soto lead with 3:19 left in the 2nd Quarter. This score would hold and the Wildcats went to the locker room at the half leading Tonganoxie 21-0.
The 3rd Quarter action began with a Brayden Brummer interception that set the Wildcat Offense up at the Tonganoxie 24 yard line. Then Trevor Gress found the endzone on a 2 yard run and Rodriguez made the PAT to make the score 28-0 with 7:43 left in the 3rd Quarter. Tonganoxie then found the endzone for the first and only time of the evening on a 61 yard run and converted the PAT to make it a 28-7 ball game with 7:23 in the 3rd. Trevor Watts answered the Chieftains score with a 54 yard run for a touchdown and Rodriguez added the PAT and made it a 35-7 lead for the Wildcats with 7:13 left in the 3rd. This score would hold to end the 3rd Quarter.
During the 4th Quarter Trevor Watts found the endzone for a third time on a 5 yard pass from Bryce Mohl. Ethan Rodriguez perfected his night going 6 of 6 on PATs to make the final score 42-7.

The Wildcat Office ran 69 plays for 389 yards and converted 20 first downs. The Wildcat Defense held Tonganoxie to 133 total yards on 44 plays.

The Wildcats will play at home in a KSHSAA Class 4A D1 Sectional Playoff game on Friday, November 10th at 7:00pm vs. Fort Scott. Fort Scott defeated Chanute in their Regional game. De Soto enters the game 9-1 and Fort Scott is 8-2.
