Varsity Wrestling · Wildcats out Wrestle the Owls 50-30

The De Soto high school varsity wrestling team competed against Olathe West in a dual Thursday evening at DHS. The Wildcats won nine of the 14 matches, including seven by fall, to outscore the Owls 50-30.

Senior Nick Nguyen (106) started the night with an open victory. Then sophomore Zak Kalafut (113), freshman Joe Chames (120), junior Lane Warner (126), and senior Josh Padron (132) all pinned their opponents to give DHS an early lead. Freshman Luke VanBooven (138) won by decision before sophomore Jackson Mocca (152), and juniors Luke Barger (182) and Jacob Goodin (285) all pinned their opponents. Junior Dylan Dossett (145), freshman Owen Nehl (160), sophomore Zach Lewis (170), and freshman Preston Schock (220) wrestled well to help with team win. De Soto was open at 195.

The Wildcats hit the mat again Saturday for a tournament at Blue Valley West. The team wrestles at home again Friday, Jan. 18 when they host nine other teams for the De Soto High School Wrestling Dual Tournament. Matches start at 4:00 pm in the main gym.
