The De Soto high school cross country team competed in the KSHSAA 5A Regional Cross Country Meet Saturday in Leavenworth. With a trip to State on the line, the Wildcats raced against eight other schools on the University of St. Mary campus. The entire boys’ team, along with Nicole Schottler and Rylie McDaniel from the girls’ team, qualified to run at Rim Rock Farm next Saturday in Lawrence.
For the boys, Sam Hubert (2) was the Regional Runner-Up. Carson Sturdy (4) joined him in the top-five while Kyle Newberry (17) and Chase Culver (18) were top-twenty finishers. Graham Hudelson (21), Brady Huggins (26), and Henry Rokusek (31) helped the boys finish third with 62 points.
Schottler (6) and McDaniel (20) led the DHS girls’ team, along with Katelyn Gress (23), Erin Pickert (25), Lane Hileman (32), Alison Roy (33), and Alissa Perry (49). They finished in fifth place, scoring 106 points. Schottler and McDaniel will represent the team as individual runners next week at State.
The KSHSAA State Meet starts Saturday with the 5A boys running at 10:00 am, followed by the 5A girls’ race at 11:45 am. Admission is $7 for students in grades K-12 and $9 for adults. For fan and meet information, along with results following the races, visit KSHSAA.org.
