Boys Varsity Swimming · 3rd Place at the Inter League Championships

Once upon a time, there was a team of nine swimmers whose accomplishments were often overshadowed by larger teams.  At the Inter League Championship meet, however, those nine athletes pulled together and held their own against teams with larger numbers.  That team of nine finished third out of six teams!  Numerous swimmers not only achieved best times, they crushed their previous bests.  The De Soto Wildcats boys’ swim team left a lasting impression in Osawatomie this evening and this coach could not be more proud.  Here is a summary of point winning races:

  • 200 medley relay team of Cole Peterson, Andre VanMeerhaeghe, Eli Gratz, and Jose Banuelos took 3rd.
  • Andrew Blazo took 2nd in the 200 free and 2nd in the 500 free
  • Curt Baker took 10th in the 200 free and 11th in the 100 breast.
  • Andre VanMeerhaeghe took 2nd in the 200 IM and 1st in the 100 breast.
  • Eli Gratz took 8th in the 50 free and 2nd in the 100 fly
  • Jose Banuelos took 4th in the 100 fly
  • Cale Marquis took 6th in the 100 free
  • Nick Rogers took 9th in the 100 free and 8th in the 100 back.
  • The 200 free relay team of Andre VanMeerhaeghe, Eli Gratz, Cale Marquis, and Jose Banuelos took 3rd.
  • Cole Peterson took 3rd in the 100 back
  • The 400 free relay team of Andrew Blazo, Cale Marquis, Cole Peterson, and Jose Banuelos took 3rd.

I’m excited to discuss the progress this team has made since November when we celebrate the season at our banquet in a couple of weeks.  Congratulations to each and every one of you and all you’ve accomplished this season!
