After taking off Homecoming weekend on September 23, DHS Wildcat Debate has been back in action these past two weekends.
Four teams of advanced debate students participated in a tough day of open competition at the Paola Invitational on Saturday, September 30th. Everyone did well, and Ethan Iddings and Shantel Horne, who could have actually competed in the JV division, were in contention for medals until the final round that day in the Open division. In spite of the challenge, Coach Inga Kelly still felt it was a positive experience and said, “We learned a lot today and we’ll be researching negative blocks and refining our cases leading up to our next tournament.”
Three novice debate teams participated in the JV division at the Piper Invitational Debate Tournament on Saturday, October 7th. Hunter Finerty and Kaitlin Torres, first year debaters, placed 4th out of over 40 teams of first and second year debaters. Coach Kelly said, “I’m especially proud of all six of the novice debaters who stepped up to the challenge of debating JV today, and I’m excited to see what’s next for them this season.”
