Multiple Teams · Panagakis and McQuality Place 3rd and 4th at State Wrestling Tournament

The De Soto wrestling team ended the season this weekend at the Kansas 5A State Wrestling Tournament in Wichita. Senior Nate Panagakis (170) led the Wildcats with a 4-1 record to finish third in the state. Senior Caleb McQuality (220) recorded a 3-2 record, good for fourth in the state.

The two wrestlers became 18th and 19th state placers in program history, and the first since 2015. Panagakis and McQuality became the program’s fifth combination to place at state in the same season.

Seniors Lawson Marshall (285), Dustin Pierce (138), and freshman Lane Warner (113) also wrestled in Wichita helping the team score a total of 32.5 points, and finish in 19th place.

The 2016-2017 wrestling season featured the five individuals who qualified for state, plus the team finishing second at the inaugural De Soto Duals Tournament. The Wildcats placed eighth at the Johnson County Classic and 13th at the Baldwin Invitational Tournament. The Kansas 5A Regional Wrestling Tournament showcased the entire team, when everyone qualified for the second day of competition.
